Native: (1) AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TX, VA, WV, PR;
            (2) AR, FL, GA, NC, SC, VA, WV.

Resident natural enemies: Apparently none reported.

Biological control attempts: None known. Individuals of Thanasimus formicarius (Cleridae) were exported from England to Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in 1908 for control of Xyleborus fornicatus Eichhoff, whose host plant (tea) and climate differ substantially, but did not become established (Clausen 1978).
