| adults are dark red-brown to almost black and about 3-5 mm in body length; sometimes adult is shining and glabrous, dull and coarsely granulate, densely pubescent or covered with scales; elytra terminate in a rounded or blunt slope (the declivity) which is concavely excavated with lateral margins dentate, all teeth on summit; distinguished from other bark beetles by their scooped-out posterior with 4 to 6 spines on each side; 67km N Brisbane, 8 Nov 1982, M.
